Dunton Hot Springs offers a range of spacious tents, rooms and family houses in an atypical style. Each one of them has a unique atmosphere and character:

Ideal for a couple and a baby, the all-season tents have a surface area of 47m² and a superb view of the mountains. The Christy’s Tent  has a bathroom with shower.

In addition to a breathtaking view, Major Ross, a 55 m² room, has a King-size bed and an additional bed (both available on request), making it the ideal room for 2 adults and 1 child. The bathroom is equipped with a shower. You will also find an office there. Located near the hot spring, Major Ross is a real invitation to well-being.

The Dunton Store, a warm and welcoming little house, is much more than a simple cabin. With a surface area of 88m², it has a parental bedroom with a King-size bed and 2 single beds arranged in the common area. You will also find a desk and a dressing room. The bathroom has a large bathtub. Around the wood-burner, you can spend an evening by the fire in a rustic and cozy atmosphere. Not far from the terrace, there is a small private swimming pool with a view of the surrounding peaks, which will delight the whole family. Dogs are welcome (at an extra charge).

Spacious family house (91 m²), the Potter House is reflected in the small ponds that surround it. With 5 bedrooms, it’s ideal for big families and can accommodate up to 11 people. The master bedroom, with a fireplace, has a King-size bed and an adjoining bathroom with a bathtub. In addition, there are three other bedrooms, a King, a Queen and a bedroom with two single beds. Our dream weekend at Dunton Hot Springs

Simona B

Simona, 42 years old, Mom of 3 children, from Monaco

After an intense week of following my partner through his business meetings between New York, Dallas and Los Angeles – yes, yes, all this in 6 days – I was eager to rest a little and to pick up my youngest child, Alessandro, 9 years old, from the airport. After a long flight from Paris to Dallas, my little boy arrived on an Air France flight and was quite exhausted, but was nevertheless very intrigued by the adventure my partner had sold us: a weekend at a family resort in the middle of the Colorado Mountains. Alessandro, an unconditional fan of the Mont Blanc massif, had no idea what to expect!

An exceptional journey

We then flew from the Texas metropolis to Durango airport, located in the south of the San Juan nature reserve. Here, we had two available options to reach the resort: a chopper or a rental car. We finally settled on travelling by car, a cheaper and more pleasant way to explore the landscapes of the reserve. The trip lasted under two hours. Dunton is accessible by a single road bathed in the lights and colours typical of the American Midwest.

Arriving at our destination, we met with Gavin, our personal concierge, who was going to take care of us for the duration of our stay. The check-in staff gave us a small sandwich to snack on before we headed to our chalet.

A charm-filled cocoon

We then moved to a small family chalet decorated with posters of old western and hunting trophies, and with logs already cracking in the open fireplace, a warm and authentic atmosphere that immediately captivated us.

Our new living space featured a spacious master bedroom, a large closet, a bathroom with tub and shower, as well as two attic bedrooms located upstairs for children. And as is often the case with Little Guest’s recommended facilities, a small cuddly toy was waiting for our child on his bed. A kind gesture we always appreciate for our little prince.

A natural spectacle

All three of us jumped out of our (very comfortable) beds at dawn to discover a breathtaking view: we were surrounded by very high mountains with white peaks combining green and reddish vegetable colours on their slopes, a magnificent landscape in all its embellishment.

We watched on for several minutes, contemplating this spectacle, before putting on our bathrobes and slippers to enjoy the first rays of the morning sun. We were walking around our chalet when we came across a natural hot spring. It was neither one nor two, and we suddenly found ourselves bathed in happiness. Looking at Alessandro, I saw in his eyes a genuine delight to be there, in the middle of nowhere, with us, sharing a unique family moment.

The connection with nature at Dunton Hot Springs is complete. The senses are constantly awakened, nourished by panoramic views, floral scents, and the sound of “woodpeckers” knocking their beaks against the bark of the trees. Magical! As Sarah, the owner of the resort, says: “We don’t have to do a lot here to bring you magic”. All you have to do in this extraordinary place is walk, contemplate and listen, and you are in heaven.

Must-have experiences

Dunton Hot Spring offers a wide range of extraordinary outdoor family activities: horseback riding, llama riding, fishing in the surrounding lakes, etc. These experiences are unfortunately only possible in winter and summer. While staying at the hotel in April, we received a customized itinerary from Sarah and her team: cookies workshop, “fat tires bike” ride, massage and relaxation at the spa, trail – during which we saw some elk! -, and pizza preparation for our little Alessandro.

We happily gathered in the evening around the fireplace to play billiards and savour the delicious drinks of the bar. Children can enjoy a wide range of board games and a giant screen to watch movies or cartoons in this comfortable and shared lounge.

Memorable souvenir

We are thrilled with our stop at Dunton Hot Springs. This preferred family destination offers all the comfort and services of a 5-star establishment in the middle of a bucolic setting.

As a Mom, here is my last piece of advice: I invite nature lovers to take Route 550 for 5 hours to discover the beauty of the reserve. Considered as the most beautiful road in the United States, it offers magnificent sceneries that will enchant children and adults alike.

Thank you Little Guest!

Love,

Simona
