Our stay by the sea in le GRAND HOTEL DES THERMES

Olivier photograph

Olivier, photograph and Joachim’s father, 4 years old

I had the pleasure of relaxing in the heart of the sublime French city of Saint-Malo, accompanied by my four-year-old son Joachim. We stayed at Le Grand Hôtel des Thermes, an establishment of absolute charm and comfort. Come with us for a day, to discover the authenticity of this seaside destination…

Royal welcome and intimate cocoon

We arrived at Le Grand Hôtel des Thermes in Saint-Malo after a long drive. Under the porch of the hotel we were welcomed as prestigious guests. The luggage was placed directly on a cart, while the valet drove our car to the hotel parking lot.

The welcome is warm, a valet accompanies us to our room, where a separate bed for my four-year-old son has been added. Joachim and I were staying in the Escale Emeraude Sud room, a beautiful and large space as bright as it is comfortable.

“Under the porch of the hotel, we were welcomed as prestigious guests.”

The hotel, with its Belle Epoque architecture, seems to be connected to the sea: all you have to do is step over a small wall to find yourself directly on the beach. Our favourite spot: the vast 20-meter common terrace that Joachim loves! This sumptuous outdoor space overlooks the seawall, where my son likes to run after a busy day to unwind in the middle of nature

On board!

Every morning in front of the sea, we have breakfast made with delicious Breton crêpes and jams. These were a great success with Joachim who, once his stomach was full, had only one idea in mind: to join the kids-club. In this space dedicated to children, my son can play in a very luminous room with young instructors who keep him occupied. After 5 minutes, he is already busy fishing for small multicoloured wooden fish…

In the afternoon we go to visit Saint-Malo, with the help of the very kind concierge who tells us where the bus stop is, this bus takes us to the city center, located one kilometer from the hotel. Once we arrive at the beautiful center, we see a magical carousel. Impossible to continue without a small stop for a few laps on the tracks.

“At the kids club, my son can play in a very luminous room with young instructors who keep him occupied.”

After touring to the rhythm of music, it’s time to discover this old pirate city and its vertiginous ramparts. We climb on them to protect ourselves from the pirate ship docked at the port… But after our long adventures, my four-year-old son is already tired from his first day at sea. A gentle walk along the sea is recommended before returning to the hotel. Upon our arrival, we hear a childlike melody emanating from the piano, Joachim is impressed

Sweet dreams

Before returning to our room, we take a privileged moment near the bar to enjoy the pianist’s last notes and enjoy a delicious squeezed orange juice. There is nothing better than to recover from a day full of memories, discoveries and emotions. We finally slip into our room and I call room service to order a special dish for children.

The sun sets in front of us, offering a colorful spectacle on low tide. I close the curtains because Joachim, exhausted by the adventure of the day, tries to fall asleep. He soon found sleep in this serene room, rocked by the murmur of the waves.

I imagine him, dreaming of Surcouf boarding or Redbeard on his three masts escaping from the fortress of St Malo…

With all my love,

Olivier
