Hotel Sacher Salzburg *****

Schwarzstraße 5-7 | 5020 | Salzburg | Austria |

  • The spacious and elegant rooms
  • The welcome gifts for the kids
  • The fully equipped fitness room

A sumptuous 5-star hotel, the Sacher Salzburg rises along the Salzach, the main river in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Lulled by the quiet streams passing under its windows, the property is located on the right bank of the Salzach. The old town of Salzburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Sacher is ideally located in the centre of the city, just minutes from Mozart’s house.

From the international airport named after the famous composer (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), it is a 15-minute drive.

An imposing building with a classic look, the Sacher combines 19th-century charm with modern comfort. Most of the hotel’s riverfront rooms offer splendid views of the Salzach’s waters and the surrounding greenery. The owner, Alexandra Winkler, personally took care of the interior decoration. Original paintings were carefully chosen, crystal chandeliers with a thousand reflections and furniture in noble wood are blended to perfection.

The Hotel Sacher offers its guests:

  • 111 rooms and suites
  • 6 restaurants and bars
  • 1 gym
  • 1 sauna
  • 1 business center
  • 1 conference room
  • 1 concierge
  • 1 parking (with valet service)
  • 1 high-quality babysitting service

WiFi access is provided to guests, as well as the possibility to check-in 24 hours a day. Your four-legged friends are also welcome at Sacher Salzburg!

Each room is uniquely and elegantly decorated. The areas are generous (a real advantage for families!) And range from 20 sqm to about 120 sqm. All rooms have a bathroom mirror with a built-in TV, a desk, a safe, a minibar, a hairdryer…

On request, guests can also use a dry cleaning service, babysitting service or even limo hire. It is possible to have some rooms communicated by an interior door (a room for the family and a room for the children) as well as to integrate a cot or a cradle.

Junior Suites (35 sqm to 40 sqm) are the most popular. Their space is ideally fitted out, with a large double bed and a lounge area. The marble bathroom has a heated floor (very nice for little children’s feet), a bath and a separate shower. Very bright, the views of these suites vary between the river or the Salzburg Theater.

To ensure comfort and privacy for all the family, you can opt for the Two-Bedroom Suites, offering a pleasant area of 120 sqm.

Finally, for large families, we recommend the Presidential Suite, which can be combined with a second room offering approximately 150 sqm of space and a unique view of the city.

The Sacher Hotel has 6 restaurants and bars. All members of the family will find happiness at mealtimes!

At noon and in the evening, the Zirbelzimmer welcomes you in a rustic-chic atmosphere, preserved since the creation of the hotel in 1866. The chef, Michael Gahleitner (awarded at Gault & Millau), will serve you the authentic flavours of the cuisine Austrian.

At Salzachgrill, the most refined grills await you for lunch and dinner. In summer, the riverside restaurant terrace offers the perfect setting for a grilled trout or local pure beef steak.

At any time, the Sacher Bar opens its doors to you for a coffee or to savour a delicious cocktail to the sound of the live piano.

From morning to evening, Café Sacher awaits you for a family break: coffee for Dad and Mom, hot chocolate for the youngest and, for all, a piece of Original Sacher-Torte (typical chocolate cake of the country, a specialty of the hotel). If you want to leave with some of the sweetest flavours of the region, the Sacher Confiserie, a real little shop full of charm, is the place to stop. This gourmet counter within the hotel is open from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. Yum!

FOR THE children

To take care of the families, the Hotel Sacher has hired a very special concierge: Franz, a little teddy bear that the children receive on their arrival and that they will find in their activity book, received in room. Symbol of the program “Little Sacher”, Franz makes sure to take into account all the needs of children.

The activity booklet “My Hotel Sacher” has been specially designed for children. Inside, the little explorers will find activities, games, coloring, lots of tricks to discover the hotel while having fun, all in a format and language adapted to their young age.

Upon your arrival, you will find in your room, for your little ones: a bathrobe and slippers anti-skid child size, a kit to have fun at bath time (including toys and soaps adapted to the soft skin of the little ones) as well as a rich collection of DVDs and board games.

An extra bed or crib can obviously be provided for baby. For any additional request, the concierge of the hotel is at your disposal (babysitting, activity advice, bottles, pacifiers, …).

The Petit Sacher Spa offers quality time for the whole family or pampering for kids and teens, as mum and dad are enjoying it. The Sacher Boutique Spa Team has created treatments that are specifically aligned to the needs of children and teenagers (from 8 to 14 years). Of course, these can be adjusted to your individual wishes.

To introduce young people to classical music and operas, the Salzburg Puppet Theater (located just 2 minutes walk from the hotel) is a must. The performances are given in German and English, but the splendid sets and the music go beyond the barriers of the language. The hall has 350 seats and is entirely decorated in Baroque style. Count about thirty euros per adult and fifteen euros per child.

With an impressive area of 800 sqm (8611 sqft), the Salzburg Toy Museum (located 10 minutes walk from the hotel) is one of the largest in Europe. Children will be in paradise and parents will quickly fall back into childhood face to the dinettes, cars, electric trains and countless teddy bears. The opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the oldest and most beautiful toys in history. The museum, on several floors, dedicates its ground floor to a huge playground to let off steam before or after the visit (ball pools, small bikes, construction games, …). Access to the museum costs € 4.50 per adult, is free for children under 4 and costs €2 for children aged 4 to 15 years old.

Emblem of the city, the Fortress Hohensalzburg (20 minutes walk from the hotel and about the same length by car) is none other than the largest fully preserved castle in the center of Europe. To save the little feet of the youngest walkers, you can access the funicular fortress. The Hohensalzburg Museum immerses you in the heart of medieval life, through a fine collection of coins, weapons and armor, as well as a kitchen fitted exactly as it was then. It also houses a puppet theater. Count around 15 € with audioguide, funicular climb and access to different spaces.

A 5 minute walk from the Hotel Sacher, classical music buffs and history buffs can visit the birthplace of the famous composer Wolfang Amadeus Mozart. You will discover a typical interior of the 18th century, archival documents, but also a complementary exhibition varying each year. For this visit of approximately 1 hour, it will cost 11 € per adult, 3,50 € per child between 6 and 14 years and 4 € for 15-18 years.

Salzburg hosts one of the most famous classical music festivals in the world each year. From the end of July to the end of August, travelers passing through the city will be able to attend a rich and varied program in theater, music and opera (performances in English and in German). The occasion of an evening out of time in love, at the rhythm of the most famous operas, while the children have fun under the supervision of the babysitter of the hotel.

A fully equipped fitness room is also available free of charge for all guests of the hotel.

Finally, the high-level concierge of the Sacher puts at your disposal a team that is willing and happy, who will be happy to satisfy all your requirements.

Owner of the SACHER HOTELS

Alexandra Winkler is one of the lucky owners of the Vienna and Salzburg Sacher hotels. Thanks to its creativity, these two iconic addresses of luxury hotels do not skimp on the comfort of the little ones. Creator of the “Little Sacher” program, Alexandra entrusts us with the details and surprises of this exceptional service exclusively reserved for children.

Your hotels are renowned worldwide as an unavoidable and prestigious address. According to you what makes them so unique?

Our Sacher hotel have a unique historical heritage, quite envied, but mostly admired. Our story begins in Vienna, in 1832, with the creation of the famous Sacher torte. Franz Sacher was then a young apprentice cook when he concocted this dessert for Count Klemens Wenzel von Metternich. It is a real chance that to reward him for this achievement, the count authorized him to use his own name for dessert. In 1876, my grandfather, Edward Sacher, one of Franz’s sons, transformed the old Viennese theatre into a luxury hotel.

Why did you create the « Little Sacher » program?

My husband and I are the parents of 3 children of 3,11 and 13 years old. When we stay with them at prestigious addresses, we expect their experience to match that of the adult’s. The trip is only more successful if everyone feels at home and privileged. That’s why we wanted to conceptualize a complete and unique program for the little ones. So, I gathered around me a team of parent artists (illustrators, storytellers and graphic artists) and we merged our ideas together in terms of services and hospitality for children. This is how the “Little Sacher” program was born.

What are the components of the program?

First, there is our little teddy bear, named Franz, who welcomes every child as soon as they arrive at the hotel. Franz has his own email address! In his email, he receives greetings, but also urgent requests.
Check-in is usually a painful time for children. Therefore, Franz and his friend the concierge takes the time to occupy them with the analysis of a personal passport where there is a lot of information to complete like their favourite colour, their favourite nickname, their birthday, their favourite dish, etc.
Children also receive a voucher for the Blue Bar where they enjoy free fruit juice, a colouring book, a kid’s menu for restaurants and room service, as well as an illustrated guide that introduces the history, the favourite recipes, the surrounding excursions and the different spaces of the hotel.

We also have a big egg hunt for Easter, a Halloween pumpkin decoration, and a napkin folding workshop. This activity is particularly close to my heart because it reminds me of my grandmother, with whom I could spend hours folding napkins when I was a kid.
Children also have access to our pastry shop, but also to our spa area where a list of treatments entirely dedicated to them. We also offer very popular mother / daughter massages.
In their room, children discover a bathrobe and slippers adapted to their small size, bath toys and some tasty and delicious treats.

You have a lot of family rooms. Do families make up most of your clientele?

Indeed. Our hotels have a total of around 100 rooms. Most of them are family suites and communicating rooms specially dedicated to welcoming families. We also observe that more and more families composed of children, parents, but also grandparents reserve these exceptional spaces.
We know the families who stay in our hotels very well. For example, there is this family that visits us every winter in Vienna. Each season, we prepare a unique program of activities for them, and I am personally responsible for buying a welcome gift for the child. Our goal is that every child feels special and finds personalized attention in every space of the hotel.

Do you think that your family heritage explains the loyalty of your customers?

Probably yes. You know, these hotels have always been the property and treasure of a family. Therefore, we work naturally to meet the expectations of a family clientele.
Beyond our clientele, it is true that we manage our staff in the same way that we take care of families. Every member of our team is known, appreciated and pampered. For example, our Head Manager has been with us for 30 years now. We are very proud of our teams, the work they do and most importantly, the bond that has united us for all these years. This, of course, is for us owners, our greatest victory when we hear them say that they feel at home here as a full member of our family.

Do you have a kids-friendly anecdote to share with us?

Last autumn, there was this charming little girl who, during her nap, had dreamed of preparing and baking a cake. When we learned about it, we arranged a meeting with one of our clerks in our kitchens so that she could make her own cake and attend the preparation of some pastries. It was a wonderful moment of to make this little girl’s dream come true, as “simple” as that.
