SITUATION

Privately owned by the famous businessman Sir Richard Branson, the 5-star Kasbah Tamadot is located not far from the city of Marrakech, in a natural setting preserved away from the hustle and bustle.

From Marrakech airport, it takes only 45 minutes to reach this exceptional location, nestled in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, the highest point in North Africa.

This geographical location offers an exceptional level of sunshine and pleasant temperatures thanks to the “gentle breeze” that lulls the air. The hotel is also named after “Kasbah Tamadot”, which means “gentle breeze” in Moroccan.

DESCRIPTION

Dreaming of a dream location, the parents of Sir Richard Branson discovered this paradise hidden in the mountains of the Atlas during one of their numerous voyages.

The Kasbah Tamadot, a former property of the renowned antique dealer and decorator Luciano Tempo, is a magical home, acquired by Branson after it had flown over it from the sky during a hot air balloon expedition.

Sir Richard Branson not only bought the sumptuous edifice, but also all the treasures accumulated by the former owner. These were of course used to arrange the place full of nooks and crannies. In 2005, Branson realized the dream of his parents: to create an oasis of relaxation in nature, in an authentic Moroccan atmosphere.

The Berber villages surrounding the site immerse visitors in a total change of scenery. Wherever you lay your eyes, you will be amazed and delighted by dazzling landscapes.

Within the grounds of the establishment, you can walk the gardens, the staircases and the red-brick courtyards and thus live the experience of a true Moroccan house.

In 2017, the Hotel Kasbah Tamadot was voted “Best Hotel Resort” in North Africa and the Middle East.

The hotel offers 28 rooms and suites, 1 restaurant with various services, 1 outdoor pool, 1 indoor pool, 1 spa, 1 hammam, 1 sauna, 1 jacuzzi, 1 fitness room, tennis courts and table tennis.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Rich in modernity and tradition, the 28 rooms of the complex each bear a Berber name telling a story. It will delight every guest looking for calm and rest.

The rooms are divided into 6 categories: Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Superior Suites, Deluxe Suites, the famous Berber Tents and a 3 bedroom Master Suite.

All rooms and suites are individually decorated with traditional Moroccan furniture and valuable antiques.

The Superior Rooms (30 sqm- 322 sqtf  to 36 sqm – 387 sqft) and Deluxe Rooms (same size as Superior Rooms, but with an additional balcony or terrace) can accommodate a baby cot.

The Superior Suite has a large balcony or terrace and can accommodate, within its 55 sqm (592 sqft), a cot.

More spacious, the Deluxe Suite (50 sqm – 538 sqft) offers, in addition to the balcony or terrace, a spectacular view of the Atlas Mountains. Two of these suites may contain a crib.

The Berber Tent, with an area of 39 sqm (419 sqft), is ideal for those who want to live a little more adventure while keeping their privacy. Guests have access to a large furnished terrace, a king-size bed and, for some tents, a jacuzzi. This room is accessible to children from 11 years old.

The Master Suite, for its part, embodies comfort and luxury. It is an independent house of 122 sqm (1313 sqft), real image of the hotel in miniature: 3 large rooms, an impressive view, a comfortable terrace and a private swimming pool.

Please note that some suites can be connected to each other to guarantee proximity and comfort for the whole family.

The hotel offers the services of a driver who will take you to Toubkal National Park (1h30 drive). At an altitude of 4,167 meters, it is the highest point in North Africa. Kids and adults will have fun through the 8 pools, 20 attractions and 17 sliding tracks that make up the oasis. The children benefit from 3 attractions that are dedicated to them, as well as the benevolent presence of lifesavers. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this historic site is just 15 minutes from Oasiria Park.

Our stay at Kasbah Tamadot

Jerome, aged 35, married, father of Achille, 4 years old, from Brussels

During the last autumn holidays, we had the pleasure of spending a few days in Marrakech at the Selman Hotel. To finish our stay, we headed for Mount Atlas and spent three nights at Kasbah Tamadot.

A magical place

The road that leads to Kasbah Tamadot is beautiful, winding and dotted with small local shops that display their terracotta creations on the side of the street. For children and babies, no worries, the hotel provides a shuttle with seats suitable for small travelers.

Located in the heart of nature, an hour from Marrakech, this boutique hotel with 28 rooms is owned by Sir Richard Branson. The least we can say is that Richard did things right!

The atmosphere is both chic and relaxed, like its famous owner who spends two to three weeks vacation here every year.

It is a discreet and peaceful address, a magical place where families find themselves in search of authenticity and serenity. The customers we met there come from England, France, Belgium and also the United States. The staff speak impeccable French and English and are very attentive.

When we walk in the door, we are warmly welcomed with tea and warm towels. In front of the reception, there is a picture taken on this spot, with Sir Richard Branson and the late Nelson Mandela. The bar is high, and the place is full of history.

Like at home

The Kasbah is designed as a felted family home. Here is no ostentatious luxury, but antiques, tapestries, innumerable candles and objects of decoration that are chosen with taste. Everything forms a separate universe and, very quickly, you have the impression that time has stopped.

We enjoyed relaxing in the lounge after dinner and my wife and I played a game of Scrabble together (I’ll let you guess who won :-)), while our son watched a cartoon on the big TV and had fun with wooden games and children’s books.

The kingdom of children

When we arrive in our room, the bed of our son Achille, who is 4 years old, is ready and installed not far from ours, in the lounge area. Babouches for children are offered at the foot of his bed, and for Mom and Dad. It was with joy that he discovered welcome gifts arranged in a small handmade bag: a stuffed camel, colouring books, pastel crayons. For the duration of our stay, Achille was very proud while walking in the hotel with his yellow babouches that make everyone smile. The room is large and sumptuously decorated. In winter, the weather can be cold, do not forget that we are surrounded by mountains! For this reason, the dear Richard had the good idea to install warm blankets in the bed. A small detail that sums up the spirit of the place: a red and a green babouche are provided in each room. If you do not wish to be disturbed, simply put the red babouche on your door. So nice! Another important detail, as the best things in life are free, the mini bar of the room is complementary. We were happy to discover a big bottle of milk, handy to give our son his evening bottle.

Tennis courts, a football area, ping-pong table, pool toys, a giant chess game, children’s DVD collection, hammam ritual for little ones, children’s menus…nothing is left to chance for the little ones.

But the highlight of the show is the farm that is at the end of the organic kitchen garden and where you can admire a camel, donkeys, pans, ducks, goats and chickens.

The indoor pool is accessible to children, but note that it is very deep. The large infinity pool is heated, but for children our son’s age, the most suitable pool is the “small” Jacuzzi pool, heated to 34 degrees and with an ideal depth of 70 cm. At the edge of this pool are Berber tents and traditional mattresses on which it is good to relax, admiring the view of Mount Atlas.

During our trip, we met other families, sometimes even families with grandparents, parents and grandchildren. Babies, young teens, children…and also couples. All the people of the world come together in this benevolent atmosphere, each aware of how lucky they are to stay in such a place.

For epicureans

The hotel has its own workshop manufacturing traditional Moroccan breads, baked in terracotta ovens. Our son loved to visit this little room and then enjoy some hot rolls.

The wine list offers Moroccan and international wines. Special mention to Moroccan white wine Terres Blanches, a round and fruity Chardonnay that I really liked.

Every other evening, a Moroccan buffet dinner is offered for €65, and à la carte lunch is also offered. The quality of the food and the very affordable prices were a pleasant surprise. Count €30 for a whole lobster grilled and around €15 for a salad of tomatoes and avocados. Speaking of prices, know that an one-hour yoga session, given in the hotel gardens, twice a week, by a French speaking teacher, will cost you only €12… My wife loved it!

Last but not least, with every spa treatment, Richard Branson’s mother’s foundation donates 10% of the proceeds to surrounding villages to promote education. Free excursions are organized by the hotel to these traditional villages to discover the local culture. Other more sporting outings are also on the programme: trekking on the Atlas, 4×4 rides.

« The quality of the food and the very affordable prices were a pleasant surprise. »

I highly recommend this kids-friendly address which allows you to discover one of the most beautiful parts of Marrakech in summer and winter. I’ll go even further and tell you that Kasbah Tamadot has just entered the top 3 of my favorite hotels in the world.

Thank you, Richard!
