A breath of fresh air in the mountains of Haute-Savoie

Amandine, mother of a 5 years old boy, from belgium

At the beginning of March, I drove to Morzine with my husband and 5-year-old son to stay in the superb chalet at La Bergerie for a week. After a 6-hour drive from Brussels, I had the pleasure of discovering this magnificent establishment nestled in a green setting in the heart of the Haute-Savoie mountains. Garden perfectly arranged and secured to suit children, outdoor sauna and relaxed authenticity, La Bergerie immediately caught our eye.

When we arrived, we were given a great welcome. The hotel staff took care of our luggage and one of the employees parked our car. The owners, kind and considerate, as well as the chic rustic decoration, made us feel at ease as soon as we walked through the door of this charming chalet.

The rooms are therefore concentrated in a large, cosy chalet overlooking a garden and swimming pool. As far as meals are concerned, it is possible to taste good typical dishes of the region prepared by a nice cook. She manages the menu of the establishment and offers daily dishes for adults and children made with fresh products. We loved it; it was as hearty as it was delicious! There are several types of single and family rooms as well as suites and duplexes.

We had opted for a family room located on the first floor and we were not disappointed. The careful, authentic and refined decoration created an intimate and warm atmosphere in the beautiful space equipped with a king-size bed and a small child’s bed and we were delighted to discover the Little Guest soaps in the bathroom. The slightly rustic wooden walls added a touch of charm to the whole. With its kitchenette area, which is very practical for families with children, and the great view we had of the ski slopes from the ski school next door, the room perfectly met our expectations.

As far as the services offered by the establishment are concerned, I noticed that everything was done to make life easier for the parents. For example, high chairs, baby bathtubs and bottle warmers are available to guests and children even have their own slippers to access the swimming pool. But that’s not all; while the children are playing in the heated pool, parents can relax in one of the nice outdoor saunas.

Finally, the gym, located on the ground floor, has everything you need to keep in shape if the weather is too bad, which was not the case that week as the sun was shining every day.

A charming and convenient location

Situated in the heart of the village of Morzine, La Bergerie is easily accessible by road and within walking distance of the ski lifts which is perfect for skiers. But don’t worry, hiking enthusiasts will not be outdone as the village is also the ideal starting point for long walks or snowshoe treks.

The motto of the establishment, which says that it offers “the services of the hotel and the independence of a home“, seemed to me to be perfectly adapted because, having come by car, it was possible for us to move easily in the region while taking advantage of the services of the hotel.

In addition to the delicious food prepared by our guests, there are many restaurants in Morzine, so we always found something to indulge in.

If we knew about the children’s playroom, my son had the opportunity to test it and he came out delighted! Table tennis and table football tables, games consoles, board games and construction games, everything is available for toddlers. There is even a blackboard on which it is possible to draw and colour. In addition to being superbly equipped and very cute, it is really warm and the children seem to feel at ease there. On the other hand, I recommend it to children aged 5 years and older because it is not in sight of the parents. Outside, children can splash around in the heated swimming pool or play on the garden swing, which we have found to be perfectly safe.

We have not had the opportunity to test this service, but I have learned that it is possible to enrol teenagers in activities and sports held in the village. Children of all ages are therefore particularly pampered in the establishment.

However, adults are not left behind. The outdoor saunas allow you to relax while keeping an eye on your children, the bar is perfect for a local beer, a good glass of wine or a delicious cocktail and the library lounge is ideal for relaxing after a day on the slopes.

On the gastronomy side, the hotel totally satisfied us because, as I said before, delicious local dishes are offered every day. In my opinion, the good idea of La Bergerie is to have set up a system of tables d’hôtes divided into two parts; one, reserved for children, which allows them to discover the gastronomy of the region and the other, intended for adults, which allowed us to dine copiously while sipping a glass of local wine.

A little extra: high chairs are available for children and they can even draw on their placemats while waiting for their meal to be served!

In a nutshell

To conclude, I would say that La Bergerie is the ideal place to spend a few days in the mountains while enjoying all the services of a high standing establishment. Both couples and families with children will find their happiness in this hotel that I like to compare to a small, calm and warm cocoon in the heart of the mountains.
