Our FAMILy stay under the Senegalese sun

Jérôme, father of Achille, 5-year-old, from Brussels

Last February, we fled the cold and rainy Europe to spend one week of relaxation at the Lamantin Hotel.

IMPECCABLE HYGIENE

Last year I was fortunate enough to get a chance to visit Senegal, lodging with my friends at the superb Patrick’s Lodge. I enormously enjoyed this warm and very exotic country, which can be reached within a 6 hours flight from Brussels. This time, I returned to Senegal alongside my wife and our son.

I must confess that my wife was a little sceptical about the idea of travelling to Africa, especially as it was her very first time. Although no vaccine is required when travelling to Senegal, we had our son vaccinated against hepatitis A and yellow fever, just so I could reassure his mother. As anxious as she was, my wife even had to bring along a wide range of medicines… which of course, we didn’t need 🙂

Since the town of Saly, wherein the Lamantin Hotel is located, is a leading seaside resort, attracting a demanding international clientele. Health and safety were thus ever-present throughout our stay. The Lamantin Hotel is characterized by its high degree of cleanliness. At the pool, there is even a person in charge of cleaning the glasses of your sunglasses, free of charge!

“Saly is a leading seaside resort which attracts demanding international clientele”

A TRUE KIDS-FRIENDLY RESORT

As soon as we arrived, we immediately got the feeling that we were going to have a pleasant family stay.

In order to keep us entertained during the check-in, we were served fruit juice, and it was accompanied by refreshing towels. The ladies at the reception only had kind words for our son Achilles, and even offered him a ball.

When we got to our suite, Achilles was very pleased to discover his welcome gift: a small African pyjama had been placed for him on his bed.

The hotel’s three restaurants all offer a children’s menu and even buffets whose height is suitable to their size. The dishes are refined and varied. The service is smooth. Typical African dishes blends alongside international classics.

Several times a day, waiters distribute free watermelon and other fresh fruit by the pool.

The Lamantin Hotel displays a “club” spirit, thanks to its entertainment, its sports lessons, its tennis court, its nautical base, its spa and its fitness room.

The kids club is open every day. It’s a beautifully decorated place where our son enjoyed having fun in. The program is very original and is based on personal development: cooking workshops, weaving lessons, gardening, little detective game, African crafts, karaoke, singing lessons, painting activities, water games, etc.

“The real attraction that appeals to every child is the famous splash pool”

Right next to the kids’ club is “Le Village des Tortues”. It is a small garden wherein large turtles roam, under the sassy gaze of parrots.

There is also a very fun tree: Boabab Love. A tree on which you can affix a wish written on a heart-shaped wood that is sold at the store. So sweet a feeling!

However, the real attraction that appeals to every child is the famous splash pool! A shallow pool in which children can have fun on the pirate ship, slide down the toboggan and get splashed under the water jets.

Children are also welcome at the hotel’s main swimming pool, which also offers a section whose depth has been designed for them.

The Lamantin Hotel has put in place all that is required to entertain the little ones. For this, musical entertainment and shows are organized every evening. A swing has been set up on the beach and table football will keep the children occupied, while their parents sip a cocktail at the bar.

It is equally worth mentioning the very helpful staff who have always been very attentive towards our child.

FAMILY SAFARI

At thirty minutes away from the hotel, is the Bandia Nature Reserve. We booked for this 3-hour excursion at the reception of the Lamantin Hotel. The excursion cost €200 for the three of us. This price included transfers to and from the reserve, entry to the reserve and a private Jeep tour, accompanied by an amiable animal guide.

The visit to the reserve lasts for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, which is perfect for children. On the savannah paths bordered by baobabs and acacias, we got very close to the most beautiful animals in Africa! Our son was speechless in front of zebras, ostriches, rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, gazelles, hyenas and crocodiles!

At the end of the visit, I recommend that you sip a drink at the bar or savour a little gourmet dish at the restaurant, a playground for little monkeys that wander about between the tables.

A pretty playground offers children the opportunity to stretch their legs before hitting the road again.

“The visit to the Bandia nature reserve takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, which is perfect for children”

TO CONCLUDE

Our stay at Lamantin allowed us to relax and recharge our batteries while discovering the thousand and one wonders of the African culture.

We enjoyed a complete change of scenery and had a wonderful trip, just a 5-hours-and-30-minutes flight away from home.

I highly recommend this destination which will fill you with unforgettable memories!

See you soon

Jérôme
