LOCATION

For more than a century, the Hotel Negresco has proudly dominated the Baie des Anges, which is considered as the most beautiful landscape on the Côte d’Azur. Built on the legendary Promenade des Anglais, the hotel enjoys a privileged view of the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to its central geographical position, the Negresco presents itself as the ideal place to discover all the charms of the Côte d’Azur.

Nice International Airport is 5 km away and the cities of Monaco and Cannes are a half-hour drive away. The centre of Nice, with its lively restaurants, beautiful boutiques and museums, is just outside the hotel. The historic heart of Nice and its famous flower market are also within walking distance.

DESCRIPTION

Inaugurated in 1913, the Negresco is one of the most emblematic palaces in Europe. Its neoclassical architecture with a baroque tendency testifies to the richness of its history and the hotel has maintained the highest level of excellence over the decades.

The Negresco mixes the old and the new. Each of the 100 rooms and 24 suites is inspired by the mythical periods of the history of French art. From the Louis XIII style to modern art, five centuries are represented.

Designed for families, ‘De Luxe’ rooms have an area of 50 sqm (538 sqft) and can accommodate three people. They offer space and peace and have a view of the inner courtyard of the hotel. Other rooms and suites offer a relaxing view of the sea and the park of Palais Massena with its centenary palms. The hotel features a gym and access to the private beach ‘Le Neptune’. WiFi is free throughout the property. A business centre and nine seminar and conference rooms are available for very busy dads and moms. Valet parking is available at a cost of €28/day and the hotel has special access for disabled guests.

GASTRONOMY

The Negresco offers 2 restaurants and 1 bar. Honoured with 2 stars in the Michelin Guide, the Chantecler of the chef Virginie Basselot is considered the best table in Nice. The menu is inspired by Provence, respecting its traditions and its products. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, as shown by the magnificent woodwork of 1751 that adorn the walls. Lovers of wine will be stunned by the cave and its 15,000 bottles.

The Brasserie La Rotonde is a restaurant dedicated to the family, which displays brilliant decoration and a menu composed of great classics revisited. The carrousel and its wooden horses of the 18th century give it a magical touch that will delight the children. In spring, the sunny terrace opens onto the sea and invites you to escape.

The Negresco Bar is a cozy area decorated with walnut woodwork and 17th century tapestries. At nightfall, jazz and Latin music provide the atmosphere.

Our magic Christmas weekend at Negresco

Sophie testimony

Sophie, 34, mother of Achilles, 3-and-a-half, from Brussels, Belgium.

The month of December is always a bit complicated. The days get shorter, the cold comes, fatigue accumulates…and on top of all that we have to think about the preparations for the end of year celebrations. That’s why, with my son Achille and my husband, we decided to escape and enjoy a little winter break under the pleasant sun of Nice.

Optimum climate and ease of access

We chose the Côte d’Azur to recharge our batteries, because this destination offers a mild winter climate (around 15 degrees) and the sun shines all day.

Regular and very affordable flights serve Nice. When we arrived at the airport, our son had the joy of discovering Santa’s house in the Arrivals Hall. The weekend was starting well!

The Negresco is really easy to get to because it is located just 10 minutes from the airport. To reach the hotel, you do not need GPS! When you leave the airport, just drive straight on the elegant Promenade des Anglais along the sea. I highly recommend renting a car, as there are nice places to discover in the surroundings: Saint -Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Beaulieu-Sur-Mer, Menton, Monaco … and much more.

“The Negresco is really easy to get to because it’s only 10 minutes from the airport.”

A 5-star playground

Crossing the door of Negresco is like turning the pages of a history book. Since its construction in 1913, this legendary palace has seen the most famous international personalities. The 6,000 works of art that grace the hotel maintain this legend.

The most impressive place of the establishment is undoubtedly its sumptuous Royal Salon, characterized by its immense white marble floor and its enormous ceiling at the top of which sits an impressive crystal chandelier. But do not think that this decor worthy of the most beautiful museums in the world is austere. On the contrary ! As proof: in this salon, pretty carts pedal collection are made available to children who can wander as they please.

In this Christmas period, there was even a sumptuous wooden carousel, also self-service. An initiative of Little Guest to shine the eyes of our toddlers. Our son Achille loved these traditional games and had a lot of fun with the friends he met on the spot.

“In Negresco’s salon, pretty pedicabs are available to children who can wander as they wish. “

Spacious rooms

We only live once! That’s why we chose to stay in a Junior Suite with partial views of the sea and the Massena Park. With an area of 65m2, this sumptuous suite has two bathrooms, a dressing room, a gigantic bedroom and a cozy living room in which is arranged a comfortable sofa bed that the room service had prepared for our son.

As a welcome, Achille was fortunate enough to receive a coloring game, a chocolate lollipop and a fruit juice. Dried fruits and macaroons awaited us later, as a welcome.

The sequel was so great that Achille and his daddy engaged in endless games of hide-and-seek!

Small interesting detail, this suite has two televisions. This allows children to watch their cartoon in the living room, while Mom and Dad enjoy their favorite movie in the bedroom.
We felt so good in our big suite, that one evening we had dinner there all three while ordering our dishes at the room service.

“The sequel was so great that Achille and his dad engaged in endless games of hide-and-seek! “

A kids-friendly city

Located in front of the sea, Negresco is the ideal base for long strolls.
Leaving the hotel, we barely had to walk for 10 minutes to join the magical Christmas market organized around Place Masséna. A place I recommend visiting during the day for a shopping trip, but also in the evening to contemplate the beautiful Christmas lights.

The city of Nice is constantly organizing activities for young and old. During our stay, a large Lego exhibition entitled “Brick History” was also organized at the Musée Masséna located right next to the hotel. I let Achille and his dad discover this expo and I took the opportunity to indulge in a little sport session in Negresco’s gym. The opportunity for them to rediscover the reign of Napoleon through objects, monuments and paintings made with millions of small bricks. The opportunity for me to sharpen my size before the holidays.

This little family getaway was wonderful! At the end of the weekend, we returned to Brussels refreshed. An experience that we  have even decided to repeat this summer!
