Somewhere between Monopoli and Ostuni, in the heart of the Italian Apulia (Puglia), the most curious ones will be able to discover a small unspoiled area overlooking the Adriatic Sea: Masseria Torre Coccaro. Being between land and sea, this intimist address (of barely 43 rooms!) is an ideal base for families who seek after a place of residence with singular and authentic charm. Old stones-lovers will be particularly enthralled!
As its melodious name suggests, Masseria Torre Coccaro is not just a boutique hotel like the others, it is a real country house that has been tastefully rehabilitated in a rural look. Every corner of this 16th century fortified farmstead is steeped in history. In addition to its 800-year-old olive grove, its original chapel and its pleasant garden framed by fortified walls, it is crowned by a magnificent vintage dovecote.
Being midway between Brindisi and Bari, this luxury farmstead is just some 50 km away from the Brindisi International Airport and 65 km away from the Bari Palese Airport.
Not long after throwing our gaze at Masseria Torre Coccaro, we immediately get carried away by the charm of its typically Mediterranean architecture. Its pristine white facade, beautifully punctuated by dry stone walls on which bougainvillea cascade, echoes the perched villages of the surrounding area.
In a rustic-chic atmosphere enhanced by vintage touches, families will undoubtedly find their happiness: in the large swimming pool area that is framed by olive trees; in the incredible spa located in a natural cave; at the beach or even in the gardens, which at nightfall is adorned with garlands of lights… simply magical!
This boutique hotel consists of:
- 43 rooms and suites
- 5 restaurants and bars
- 1 fortified garden
- 1 private beach
- 1 outdoor pool
- 1 indoor pool
- 1 spa
- 1 fitness centre
- 1 complimentary kids-club for children between 3 to 12 years old
- 1 high-quality babysitting service
To its little guests and their parents, Masseria Torre Coccaro offers a selection of comfortable rooms and suites, with highly bucolic luxury. The owners have designed the premises while maintaining the yesteryear spirit of Masseria: noble materials, thick whitewashed stone walls and vaulted ceilings loom. Each room is a true Italian style lesson!
Ancient furniture, antiques and embroidered headboards: the spirit of Puglia is very much present under the vaults of the Superior Rooms! Being open to the outside, the rooms have a flower garden, as well as a loggia terrace. They offer views over the olive groves, with the presence of its emblematic fruits being found even in the provided cosmetics, which are based on olive oil. These genuine cocoons (linen sheets, goose down pillows, comfortable living room) are ideal for couples with a toddler.
Harboured in the estate’s tower, the Junior Suite Deluxe will bring you right into history. Having been inhabited, in his days, by the Marquis, Giuseppe Palmieri, an Italian politician and philosopher born in the city of Lecce, this spacious suite is ideal for families. Its high windows that open onto the sea or the countryside, its finely embroidered bedspreads and its antique furniture boast a very noble atmosphere! Its bathroom equipped with a double washbasin and a hot tub only further enhances this reigning atmosphere.
With its heated swimming pool framed by orange trees, the Aranceto Suite is a unique piece. On a surface area of 100 sqm, it shows off its large living room and comfortable sofas, its bedroom and its bathroom with hot tub. Its special charm is conveyed by its rock-cut walls; just as its incredible stone fireplace, which will make any of your evenings as romantic as it gets!
The Two Bedroom Villa (150 sqm) is a private residence wherein large families and groups of friends like to lodge. Being made of 2 bedrooms, large living areas, a heated private swimming pool and a hot tub, this Mediterranean-accented villa also boasts a beautiful garden wherein bougainvillea abound. This is the ideal place to let yourself be drowned in sunbathing, without a shred of guilt!
In Italy, there is no joking around, when it comes to the cuisine, and even less so in the Heal of Italy. Masseria Torre Coccaro is an organic farm that is still active. Its extra virgin olive oil, capers or tasty jams make it famous all over the world. The ingredients it serves to its guests are produced under the same philosophy: high quality and respect for the environment.
The facility’s main restaurant, Egnathia, is nestled under the vaults of the old barn and unfolds its remarkable terrace under a pergola of jasmines. True to the spirit of the place, it serves an exceptionally refined local cuisine, highlighting fresh and local products. This is an opportunity for the entire family to (re)discover the famous orecchiette, traditional Apulian pasta accompanied by their homemade sauce. On the menu, the Burrata is equally a staple! Do not forget that the sea is just nearby and that the fish and seafood served here are fresh. Sesame bluefin tuna with crunchy vegetables and a touch of Sichuan pepper would be very appealing even to the discriminating gourmets.
If you rather fancy eating by the pool, then you must head to la Cabana. Their fresh salads, grilled meat and fish are excellent recuperative after a day spent dabbling and basking in the sun! The bonus here; the dry-stone bar exudes a crazy charm and cocktails… excellent!
You cannot take a trip to Italy without talking about pizza! Fortunately, the Palm Beach Club Fish Restaurant & Pizzeria welcomes all gourmets in a very casual seaside atmosphere. In order not to lose sight of the sea, the hotel’s private beach Club offers local cuisine with a Neapolitan twist that are concocted by the Chef, Giuseppe Ferola. The delights of the Adriatic abound there (seafood, scampi, calamari, fresh fish…). Do you, however, seek after more unexpected local flavours? The beans cream with its concocted chicory topping and its homemade croutons enhanced with red onions have already won over the Little Guest!
