Gastronomy

To get acquainted with Portuguese delicacies, O Pescador, with its name that is reminiscent of local fishermen, highlights seafood. In a simple decor enhanced with touches of blue and white, you can savour peppered-shrimp salads, ocean-flavoured rice or freshly caught clams spiced with coriander. For dessert, the highlight remains the lemon and carob pie, the fruit from the country’s emblematic tree. A marvellous balance between tanginess and sweetness.

It will be difficult to find a more family-friendly spot than Zest. With its vitamin-packed decoration and its largely vegetarian and completely organic menu, it will quickly become your favourite spot for lunch. For a healthy lunch, go for a salad between two swims or simply opt for a freshly squeezed fruit juice…

Finally, to combine your taste buds and spirit, head for the Zen garden at Pine Cliffs. In a delight-conducive setting, you will here, be experiencing a festival of Japanese-inspired dishes, concocted by Chef Olivier da Costa. A successful blend of East and West: tempura and sushi share the menu with Truffle Linguini or black cod marinated in Saikyo miso.

Between two swims on the Falésia beach, famished families can head for Maré at Pine Cliffs to feast on grilled fish and exceptional platters of seafood. Having been freshly renovated, the hotel’s Beach Club offers exclusive services in a relaxed atmosphere with one of the most beautiful views in the region. The Bonus? The excellent sangrias.

FOR CHILDREN

When you try comparing the Pine Cliffs Resort to a paradise for children, you won’t be able to make much of a difference! In 2016, this facility won the prestigious Europe’s Best Family Resort Award, and… seeing the offers put at the disposal of travelling families, you will quickly understand why they won that award!

The little ones (6 months to 8 years old) can have fun at the Porto Pirata Kid’s Club, a 7000sqm space, which has been entirely dedicated to them. Far from being a simple playground, Porto Pirata is an incredible place made up of two wooden pirate ships and… of their actual sizes. With its privileged view over the sea, beyond the cliffs of the Algarve, children have everything they need to see themselves as real pirates! They will be able to have fun on its ropes, to experiment their balance on its wooden bridges before climbing the mainsail. Nearby, a bouncy castle, bicycles for the little ones, a mini-golf course and a paddling pool complete the panorama.

Budding sailors and pirates are offered a variety of activities throughout the day: board games, mini-golf tournaments, sensory activities, dance workshops and of course treasure hunts… their day will go by very fast!

Meanwhile, the 8- to 13-year-olds will be able to spend time with their friends on the tennis courts or during a wild paddle game. They could equally entreat themselves to a football match on the football field or have fun playing darts. The swimming pool, mini-golf and Beach Club are also among the teenager’s favourite HQs.

AS A FAMILY

All along the coast, numerous boat trips allow families to take to the sea and sail among whales and dolphins. It is also an opportunity to discover the striking beauty of the ochre cliffs, and sea caves especially when they are sublimated by the sunset. Many companies offer sea tours in catamaran, small boats, kayaks and even in pirate ship!

Are you more of a land than sea lover? In the surroundings of the Pine Cliffs Resort, numerous white villages with pleasant alleys invite you for a stroll: Loulé and its market which is full of roasted almonds and stuffed figs; Silves and its medieval fortress; or the azulejos-covered houses in Portimao, shall delight families.

Don’t we say that the best way to discover a country is by savouring its cuisine? It is by learning to cook emblematic Iberian dishes and then sharing them in a convivial atmosphere that Mimo proposes to bring you closer to the country’s culture. Through tailor-made cooking classes and in small groups. Choose from: Portuguese bistronomy, food and wine pairings; Pesticos and Tapas, traditional dishes from the Algarve; and even… a special cooking lesson for families. A special moment which Little Guest warmly recommends for you, before enjoying yourselves!

FOR PARENTS

Holidays are not always synonymous with rest but are also a special moment to reconnect with your body. With the Pine Cliffs Goes Active Program, Pilates lessons with a private coach, cardio sessions in the super-equipped fitness centre, or tennis matches with friends will only require that you put on your trainers. What’s the favourite here? Family yoga session under the shade of the park’s umbrella pines. Where you can deeply breathe the iodized ocean air, feel in harmony with the landscape and its little treasures.

The Algarve is full of prestigious greens and is one of the best spots in the world to perfect your swing. For lovers of this game, the Pine Cliffs golf course will not disappoint. Its 9-hole course appeals to both experienced players, as well as to beginners. Not to mention the breath-taking view, which, overlooking the sea, is well worth the detour.

For a getaway and to regain serenity, there is nothing like diving into the warm waters of the Serenity Spa, in the whirlpool of its jacuzzi or under the massaging jets of its sensory showers. To complete this moment of relaxation, entreat yourself to a timeless moment in the expert hands of the masseuses. Our absolute favourite: the “Senses of the Algarve” signature treatment inspired by the treasures of the region. After an exfoliation with Fleur de Sel from the Salines de Ria Formosa, a wrap with Carob, an iconic fruit from the region rich in selenium and antioxidants, it is a massage with orange essential oil that will beautify the glow of your skin. An experience not to be missed!

My experience at the pine cliffs resort

Jérôme, father of Achille, 5 years old, from Brussels

I spent two days in this famous resort to make sure it meets the quality standards set by Little Guest.

More than a hotel, a real village

The Pine Cliffs Resort bears its name well: There, you will find the sublime ochre cliffs typical of the Algarve, but also pine trees. Lots of pine trees. These umbrella pines provide shade and coolness, but above all they help to create a very pleasant atmosphere. These majestic trees are everywhere: along the walking paths, on the golf course, around the swimming pool etc.

Pine Cliffs blends respectfully into the surrounding landscape. The classic Mediterranean architecture is reminiscent of the typical Portuguese villages and their white houses. The decoration is also inspired by the country’s colonial past with its marble, fountains and vaults.

The site is impressive, it is a real village composed of three types of accommodation: the villas, the ocean suites and, finally, the hotel rooms (where I stayed).

« The Pine Cliffs blends respectfully into the surrounding landscape. »

My room was large and had a nice terrace overlooking the back of the village. The bed was very wide and very comfortable, and in the living room there was an elegant convertible sofa-bed that could accommodate two children. I also thought that the dressing room could have be a little bigger, because when I travel with my family I like to have enough storage space. The bathroom had a bathtub, handy for bathing the little ones.

The resort is really, you are going to walk a lot. But it’s very nice to stroll along the traditional cobblestone paths. If you are looking for an intimate hotel, I do not recommend Pine Cliffs. But if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t want to stand still and wants a complete package, this is the place for you!

Nothing is missing: tennis and paddle tennis courts, basketball court, kids-club, golf course, mini golf for the kids, various restaurants, gym, water sports, shops, spa… the resort even has its own foundation that shelters abandoned cats. There is also a cooking academy! With friends or family, you can take traditional Portuguese cooking classes. The famous pasteis de nata will have no more secrets for you!

A family paradise

During my stay I only met a few couples. The majority of clients are families with children. Therefore, the Pine Cliff is totally prepared to welcome its young clients in the best possible way. I met French, Portuguese, German and English clients.

The hotel has a nursery, a kids-club and a teens-club. The children’s facilities are grouped around a gigantic playground in the shape of a big pirate ship. Mini golf is free of charge and toddlers can even play on the giant trampoline, in complete safety, as they are harnessed.

The more sporty will appreciate the football and tennis academies where they can follow discovery or improvement courses.

Many children ride their bikes around the resort. Some have brought their own bike with them, others rent it on site.

The resort has several swimming pools, the depth of which has been specially designed for children.

At the beach, a lifeguard ensures the safety of the swimmers. To reach the beach, you can take the stairs or take the lift down. This is a very convenient way for families with strollers. On the same beach, there are free deckchairs (first come, first served), but you can also reserve more comfortable sun beds at a relatively low surcharge.

« Many children ride their bikes around  the resort.»

The water is a bit warmer than that of other seaside resorts such as Sagres because the beach is less exposed to winds.

At sunset, I recommend that you share a glass at the Mirador champagne bar, nestled on a cliffside with a breathtaking view of the ocean.

At lunchtime, I enjoyed tasting the catch of the day prepared by the Chef on the barbecue at the Pescador fish restaurant. I recommend the 6 grilled sardines, offered at the price of 24€ and accompanied by a salad and potatoes.

One evening I went to enjoy a nice piece of meat at the Piri Piri steakhouse. The food was delicious and the setting was very beautiful (especially on the terrace), but I found the bill was quite expensive (€60 for the steak and €12 for a glass of red wine).

I must admit that I was  a little disappointed with the restaurant where the breakfast buffet is served. This one deserves a little renovation.

My stay at Pine Cliffs was very positive and I highly recommend this hotel for your next family holiday.

Of course, you should definitely book your stay via Little Guest to enjoy a lot of advantages such as free concierge service, the best prices on the market and a lot of nice gifts for your children!
