Surrounded by ancient holm oaks, olive groves and vineyards, the 5-star hotel São Lourenço do Barrocal is located in a bucolic setting: the Portuguese countryside of the Alentejo region.
It is more precisely in Monte, an old small agricultural village, that the family estate has been evolving for more than 2 centuries. Discover this historic property in perfect symbiosis with nature between the medieval hill of Monsaraz and Lake Alqueva.
Upon request, you can benefit from a shuttle service to and from Lisbon airport (2h) and Évora railway station (45′).
The São Lourenço do Barrocal stands out among Portugal’s unique natural heritage. The cottages in particular, can be described as a small country house typical of the region, completely private and totally suitable for family holidays. Under its modern and uncluttered farmhouse look, the estate plants its decorations between wildflowers, bushy perennial grasses and scattered colours. You can observe butterflies flirting with the petals and birds dancing in the midst of soothing nature.
José António Uva, the worthy representative of the eighth generation of the same family to have lived in São Lourenço do Barrocal, is responsible for the aesthetics and splendour of the place to this day. Who better than a little boy who grew up and spent his childhood in this place to give you an authentic and unforgettable experience?

Served between 7:30 and 11:00 a.m., the homemade breakfast is offered to you by the house! Fresh bread, local products, organic ingredients of local origin, here is what will sign the beginning of your busy days!
The Alentejo region is famous for its fresh, simple, full of flavour cuisine. This is showcased at the São Lourenço Do Barrocal Restaurant where the culinary brigade executes delicious recipes based on seasonal products picked from the hotel’s vegetable garden or purchased from local producers. On its terraces overlooking the gardens, you can enjoy, for example, a “grouper fried with olive oil, garlic and coriander”, or a “shrimp stir-fry on a bed of garden salad”.
For their spring and summer dinners, families like to sit down at the Hortelão Restaurant, located by the pool and the vegetable garden, to enjoy grilled vegetables with certified organic veal or fish caught in the Alqueva Lake, about 10 km from the hotel. And every Saturday evening, attend a Dixieland concert and other forms of jazz to bring a musical note and a catchy tune to your feast!
And to accompany these divine dishes, the house will surely serve you one of the wines produced and grown at the hotel’s winery. Cultivated on a unique terroir, São Lourenço do Barrocal’s 10-year-old vines are a dream come true. To sample this little pleasure, you can take part in a wine tasting while admiring the view of the landscape. With a glass in your hand, your gaze on the foothills of Monsaraz…
The most romantic will not be able to resist grabbing their wicker basket filled with local produce and sitting in the shade of cork oak in the garden of almost 700 hectares. Lulled by the murmur of the lake water, enjoy light, regional dishes prepared to order for a successful family picnic.
