Head to French Polynesia, and more particularly to the private atoll of Tetiaroa, north of Tahiti, where the exceptional Brando Hotel is located.
From Tahiti International Airport, 20 minutes by plane will be enough to reach the island, via a short but spectacular flight over crystal clear waters and atolls. The flights between Tahiti and Tetiaroa are conducted by the island’s private company, Air Tetiaroa.
From the first travelers following the route of the stars to the famous Captain Cook and his fleet in 1769, Polynesia and its marvelous islands have always attracted explorers. A sacred island for the local people, Tetiaroa served as a refuge for illustrious local leaders, but also as a place of worship for gods and ancestors.
A real corner of paradise, it is easy to understand why the American actor and director Marlon Brando fell in love with this island filled with lush vegetation. In order to realize his dream, Marlon Brando called in 1999 on Richard Bailey, a famous creator of luxury hotels residing in Tahiti. The two men then launched the project of an eco-friendly hotel with a focus on research and education. This is how Brando’s name was made the hotel’s name.
Ecology was at the heart of Brando’s approach. In 2016, the hotel was awarded LEED Platinum (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for its innovative programmes such as deep sea water pumping for the air-conditioning system, use of solar panels and the electric generator which uses coconut oil and thus supports the local economy.
The excellence of the hotel allows it to occupy first place in the famous 2016 ranking of “The 50 Best Resorts in the World” published by Condé Nast Traveler’s magazine.
The hotel has 35 Deluxe villas with private pool, 2 restaurants, 2 bars, 1 spa, 1 swimming pool, 1 organic garden, 1 library, 1 luxury jewellery shop, 1 boutique, 1 fitness centre and tennis courts, 1 water sports centre, 1 ecological station, 1 cigar cellar and 1 cinema.
To make the most of your stay, you can opt for the hotel’s all-inclusive formula. This includes meals in the hotel’s restaurants, 24-hour room service (an 80€ surcharge may apply for orders made between 10 P.M. and 6 A.M.), drinks (excluding some premium wines, champagnes and spirits), one excursion per person per day (based on the list of excursions offered by the hotel), a 50-minute spa treatment (one per day for one-bedroom villas, two for two bedrooms and three for three bedrooms), access to the fitness centre and tennis courts, access to beach activities (canoeing, kayaking, snorkelling equipment, paddleboard), a bike for each occupant of the villa (also available for children), WiFi access (from the villa and public areas) and a selection of international newspapers and magazines.
The luxurious Brando villas are ideal for families and each has its own private beach with a swimming pool. The spaces are airy, and the bathrooms modern and chic.
The 1-bedroom villas offer a large living area of 96 sqm (1033 sqft) with a sitting area (TV, radio and WiFi access), a bedroom with a magnificent bay window overlooking the gardens and the lagoon, a dressing room adjoining the bedroom and a bathroom with an outdoor bathtub protected by wooden panels. The outdoor pool is 10 sqm (107 sqft). These villas are ideal for one to two people. One or two children under the age of twelve may accompany them free of charge.
The 2-bedroom villas are located on two floors. Their surface area is 168 sqm (1808 sqft). The ground floor bedroom has a large dressing room. Upstairs, the second bedroom offers a beautiful view and overlooks the lagoon; it has a dressing room and bathroom with an outdoor bathtub. The common area consists of a living room, a kitchen and a dining room for up to six guests. In addition to its pool of 13 sqm (140 sqft), this villa offers a private garden of 154 sqm (1657 sqft) as well as a terrace. One to four people can reside there.
The 3-bedroom villa is unique. This formula is truly exceptional and offers to those who stay there an area of 246 sqm (2647 sqft). For a family stay, the villa has the same amenities as the 2 bedroom villa (living room, kitchen, dining room) with, in addition, a third bedroom independent of the main villa. The outdoor areas are in keeping with the size of the villa and include a swimming pool of 22 sqm (236 sqft). This villa sleeps, six people.
The two Brando restaurants serve fine cuisine, inspired by Polynesian and French flavours.
Les Mutinés is a gourmet restaurant with a magical atmosphere. With its white sails, sand colours and wooden structure, you will almost feel like you are in a dugout canoe.
At the Beachcomber Café you can enjoy your meal at the beach overlooking the turquoise waters surrounding the island. The menu offers a perfect balance between local specialities and classic French cuisine.
In order to best satisfy all of its clientele, Brando commissioned Chef Kelvin Au-Iong to create a vegan menu. This menu is inspired by the chef’s experience at the famous vegan bistro Invitation V in Montreal. For unparalleled freshness, the vegetables are picked by hand from the heart of the hotel’s organic garden. The vegan menu is available in both restaurants and in-room dining.
Bob’s bar, named after the assistant and friend of Marlon Brando, is a small bar where you can enjoy a fresh cocktail with your feet in the sand.
Elevated from the beach, on the second floor, the panoramic bar Te Manu offers a breathtaking view of the lagoon. There is no better place to have a drink in the early evening and watch the sunset. Venture onto the wooden walkway attached to the coconut trees and discover the relaxation areas.
