The Lodge at Ashford Castle is a boutique hotel located in the 350-acre estate of Ashford Castle, in the west of Ireland. Just 40 minutes from Knock International Airport, The Lodge is nestled in a verdant wilderness. Here, nature is queen and the landscapes are picturesque. Torrents, rivers, lakes, mountains and stretches of barrens offer a complete change of scenery. The picturesque towns of Galway, Westport and Connemara are a 40-minute drive away. The hotel is the ideal place for travelers seeking adventure and exploration, but also for those who wish to rest and recharge their batteries.
Erected in 1865, the hotel was the residence of the estate manager of Ashford Castle. The property overlooks the enchanting Lough Corrib Lake and is a member of the Red Carnation Collection, providing impeccable service and elegance. As proof, during 2016, The Lodge at Ashford Castle was ranked in the top 10 of the ‘Best Hotels of the World’.
The hotel offers 24 luxurious rooms and 26 sophisticated suites. Parking and WiFi are free of charge. This is the ideal place for family stays. Several possibilities are available to facilitate the stay of parents and their children. The Duplex Suite is designed for families of three. It includes a comfortable sofa bed installed in the living room of the ground floor and a double bedroom on first floor. Other suites options are custom-tailored, according to customers’ requests. It is, for example, possible to connect Deluxe rooms, so that all members of the family can enjoy their private space.
The hotel has a bar-brasserie, the Quay Bar, where you can sip a cocktail or eat a traditional Irish dish, while admiring the breathtaking view of the lake. Wilde’s at The Lodge is a well- known gourmet restaurant, with the name a tribute to Sir William Wilde, a great 19th-century surgeon whose house was located just in front of the lodge. This emblematic character of Irish history is also known for having given birth to a talented son: Oscar Wilde. Contemporary Irish cuisine is created by Jonathan Kean, one of Ireland’s most talented chefs. The varied and refined dishes blend top-quality local products such as Irish beef and lamb or fish and other seafood caught in Galway Bay and on the Connemara coast.
After spending the morning exploring the many aspects of the Ashford Castle estate, you can enjoy a restful treat enjoying the afternoon tea. With friends or family, you can try a delicious selection of sweets, pastries, but also savoury dishes such as salmon shortbread biscuits. Small tip, do not miss Bailey’s ice cream, a real treat for the taste buds!
