Location
It is at the edge of the woods and mountains that the Vidago Palace Hotel ***** unveils its incredible ochre red Art Deco façade, in the heart of the historic natural province of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. As a sublime wine-growing region, Haut Doura is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its landscapes like no other on earth depict shale slopes as far as the eye can see, sublimely shaped by the constant sunlight.
However, before facing this architectural jewel of the 1910s, take a stroll along the main avenue, walking through an authentic 110-hectare park that has preserved its original features. Get ready to embark on a journey through time and project yourself a few centuries back, because the hotel will take you through the steps of its kingdom, like an invitation to enter a magical world.
The beautiful city of Porto and its international airport can be reached in a 1 hour and 10 minutes’ drive, a long enough time for you to be able to catch a glimpse of the region’s beauty, accompanied by your driver (transfer service on request, child’s car safety seat).
Description
Long renowned for its thermal baths, this ancient century-old country house derives its name from the Vidago Thermal Park wherefrom it takes root. History buffs should note that the hotel was built under the orders of King Carlos I to compete with the largest luxury spas in Europe.
A perfect definition of a palace, Vidago stands out for its enchanting decor coupled with high-end services and an atmosphere that is both elegant and rustic. Its timeless spa and unique golf course, designed by the famous architect, Philip Mackenzie Ross, are alone worth the international renown of this ideal base for families who seek after comfort and luxury.
It is therefore only natural that the hotel defines itself today as “one of the most romantic and emblematic tourist destinations in the northern region of Portugal”.

Accommodation
The rooms and suites of Vidago Palace Hotel perfectly reflect the refinement shown by this place. Special attention is paid to details and comfort, in order to welcome families as they should. A baby bed and/or single bed can be installed in the Deluxe and Privilege Rooms, as well as in the suites.
Being spacious and bright, the different rooms are decorated with sumptuous Beirut tapestries and decorated in sophisticated touches of British inspiration, thus evoking the Belle Époque. However, what guests prefer above all is the peaceful view over the lush green exteriors and the mountainous reliefs which completes the already dreamlike setting.
Families of 3 will love the Deluxe Room (30 sqm) or the Privilege Room (45 sqm), each with an ultra-comfortable King-size bed and a bathroom with bathtub (and shower for the second category). The cosy cocoons found on the ground floor benefit from a beautifully furnished terrace and offer the possibility of connecting two rooms to create a larger and more intimate space. Adding an additional single bed or a cot is a possible option.
The Junior Suite and the GrandSuite, for their part, radiate luxury and tranquillity. The Junior Suite (39 to 49 sqm) is made up of a bedroom with a double bed or twin beds, a family bathroom and a living room where you can enjoy moments of sharing. The Grand Suite draws its inspiration from nature, thus available in a palette of green, cream and navy-blue colours. There is also the possibility of adding an additional single bed and a cot.
Gastronomy
Orchestrated by Chef Vítos Matos, the 5 restaurants of Vidago Palace Hotel guarantee you a unique gustatory journey, in the company of your little treasures that will indeed be well pampered! Highchairs, allergen-free and children’s menus, everything can be found there.
Imbedded in a romantic setting, the Winter Garden will announce the colour of your day. Spread out your newspaper, share a delicious fruit- and pastries-based breakfast, then sip your cappuccino or hot chocolate while enjoying the views over the park’s green expanse.
The venues’ centrepiece, the ballroom now serves as a dining area: The Grand Ballroom. While great royal families used to organize dancing evenings therein, the families of today savour a thousand and one marvels of Portuguese gastronomy, like the “Barroso Veal and its black vitelottes” accompanied by a mascarpone sauce flavoured with chives and mustard.
As the hotel’s biggest pride, the Wine Cellar offers a wine-tapas formula for a most appreciable Spanish-Portuguese combo, to be savoured in a charming place, which is designed like a vintage bistro.
Being incredibly modern and minimalist, The Club House will warm your hearts during winter thanks to its fireplaces, whose reassuring crackling accompanies your dinners. When the good weather sets in, the guests can sit outside and enjoy the striking beauty of the park. You can go there for an informal lunch, before a kids-club session or a round of golf. Nothing better than a good Caesar salad or a sandwich on the go to get a fresh start. And children love this a lot!
Being both a bar and a restaurant, the Four Seasons Room is a light-flooded space, which is inspired from the 18th century publishing event, where people gathered to philosophize and debate about the authors of the time. Padded velvet armchairs, leather sofas, eclectic furniture and silk-clad walls, this is the kind of atmosphere in which you will be immersing yourself in during your meal.
