After several hours’ flight to Thailand and a smooth landing at Phuket airport, our little family took a transfer to the COMO Point Yamu hotel, located on a peninsula floating on the Andaman Sea. A stay in Thailand, under the tropics, that we’d been looking forward to!
After a half-hour’s drive from the airport, we disembarked at the foot of the hotel, a modern edifice in terms of its interior architecture, but without forgetting its traditional palm-leaf-covered gable roofs. At check-in, where we are offered a welcome drink, we learn that the premises are partly inspired by Singaporean decoration.
At first, the lobby seemed a little impersonal, but it has a large opening to the outside, offering a wide view of the rest of the premises. An unobstructed view of the turquoise-blue sea and a vast panorama of the neighboring islands – a breathtaking sight that’s hard to resist taking pictures of!
The time had come to discover our room. A vast suite in stark contrast to what we’d seen before. The Singapore influence is still there, but the atmosphere is much warmer than in the lobby. We had a huge bed and a breathtaking view of the bay we were overlooking. And let’s not forget the spacious bathroom and dressing room for added comfort. Speaking of comfort, everything was perfect!
We then explored the premises to head for the hotel bar, which offers a wide range of refreshments for the whole family. Since hunger was in the air, we opted for the Thai-inspired Italian restaurant, a surprising fusion of local seafood and Italian specialties. At lunchtime, there’s less on offer than at dinner, when the two Thai restaurants light up and offer more extensive menus.
Surprising as it may seem for a hotel of such renown, and even though the sea has made us dream more than once, no beach access is offered from the hotel. Only the villas below have both a foot on land and a foot in the sea. The hotel does, however, organize excursions according to your wishes and availability, from hiking or mountain biking to kayaking or boating, and will arrange transfers accordingly.
What’s more, depending on the program drawn up by the COMO Point Yamu team, you can sign up for a variety of free activities. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover yoga as a family, or to learn boxing and other combat sports.
For their stay in Thailand, children are not to be outdone! The COMO Point Yamu kids’ club offers a wide range of toys, board games and even a garden for the little ones to play in, both in the shade and in the sun! It’s a really nice place, and we really liked it. In addition to excursions, the hotel also offers a spa for moments of relaxation, an almost obligatory part of any vacation worthy of the name. Last but not least, the large swimming pool overlooking the sea and surrounding islands will delight the whole family, with a shallower area for the little ones and deckchairs elegantly arranged all around.
Despite the lack of beach access from the hotel, COMO Point Yamu offers a truly relaxing experience. There’s a pleasant calm that you won’t want to do without. All in all, a more than comfortable stay for a peaceful vacation, delicious and surprising cuisine, not forgetting those incredible sea views and those islands in the distance as a horizon.
